Ring of Kerry

So we set out today to drive the Ring of Kerry. The weather for this whole trip was predicted as showers with sun in the afternoon... but this morning we started out OK but then it rained most of the afternoon. However things went very smoothly, we had a really good time and got glimpses of the beauty of Ireland...

Our first stop!We took a little side trip off the Ring of Kerry by taking a car ferry over to Valentia Island where we drove up the Geokaun Mountain and Fogher Cliffs Walk... unfortunately this is when the real rain hit. But we stubbornly kept pressing on hoping it would clear. On the way up to the highest peak I made Joey stop so I could take this picture below. Not a great idea. In the rain, with a clutch, on a gravel incline, we nearly burned up the brakes trying to get going again. And then not another car was seen on this rainy day until that moment and then suddenly one appeared on our tail... who knows why... but our tires threw a couple rocks at him ... and we thought it serves him right for pulling up so close to us as we struggled on this hill! J as always was calm as a cucumber. Aren't they cute!!!
So we get up to the top and we (well most of us) were not leaving without getting out to see the view... here we are fighting the wind and rain in our face as we run back in the cold to the car! We sat in the car and ate our ham and cheese! A nice memory.

Here is the view we could see!

So driving on here is a picture of one of the very small roads we were on... yes we would meet cars and have to find places to pass.

Our next stop was Staigue Fort built out of creek rock and no mortar to hold it together.
It was quite an amazing.

Last stop was Ladies View given its name by the Queen Victoria ladies in waiting.
...so goes a day driving in the rain in Ireland.
